The Sims 2 = 900,000 Units

The Sims 2 first sales figure has rolled in, and it has almost already reached its first 1 million units. The game was just released last week (September 14, 2004). The Sims 2 will surely put up some impressive sales numbers over the next months. Will it break the record set by its predecessor, the all-time best selling PC game?

The Sims 2 broke 1 million units within 10 days.

"The Sims franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and The Sims 2 is a game that changes the way we think about our industry," said Frank Gibeau, senior vice president of marketing, EA. "The game has sold one million units worldwide in its first ten days at retail -- more than fifty percent of those games were sold in Europe."
And the franchise has surpassed 41 million units so far.

Combined sales for the franchise have topped 41 million units life-to-date.

1 million! Wow, that's 1/10th the way of surpassing it's older brother and it doesn't even have an expansion pack yet. I might as well check the game out I guess ;p

The Sims = 16 million
The Sims 2 = 4.5 million
The Sims Franchise = 54 million

The next generation of The Sims launched in September 2004 with The Sims 2 and has sales already topping 4.5 million units worldwide. The Sims 2 will ship its first expansion pack, The Sims 2 University, in March 2005.
