Good place to custom build a computer?
July 5, 2003, 4:17 PM CST by Morxeton
Looking into getting a new computer very shortly. Used to have a local place that I went to, but it seems they are now gone or out of business or something. :/

Anyone know a place out there that I can go to? Thanks a bunch.

Hell yeah, pricewatch.com works! By shopping online, you eliminate the middleman, and that saves you money. I think the only reason to go to a local retailer is if you want it today, here, now. Otherwise, if you can wait for a few days, or a week or so, then online shopping is the way to go. What do you prefer?

You might go home.
It's a very good place to build a custom computer.

Do yourself a favor and buy a barebone system. If you simply buy a mobo and parts you might run into problems with adapter cables and such. If you buy a barebone system then all that is left is to buy what parts you want and pop them in.

www.surpluscomputers.com
www.ebay.com
www.pricewatch.com
www.newegg.com
are all pretty good places.

Best Buy and Office Max can have crazy mail in rebates sometimes too. Last week you could get a modem for $10 with a $10 rebate = $0.00

I purchased a 52X cd burner for $10.00 after rebates.

ofcourse if you dont have an office max or a best buy this won't apply to you.

I reccomend getting a barebones reseller, that way it is a one stop deal for customer service and warranty issues.

Reseller? you speak about things I'm not familar with. hehe. Care to explain?

Was looking at the sites listed in this place.. and none of the barebones go up to what I'm looking for. Highest I saw was an AMD Athlon 2000.. looking for 3000/3200..

gimme the money and i'll build it for you.

Don't do it Morxeton. Don't let Pichu build it; he doesn't know what he's doing. Let ME build it for you... you may need to buy extra parts. ;)

If you were going to have someone build it I'd go with a well known company. I've had to many problems with these little shops.

Don't know where you live, but I was told Fry's would build your PC right there in front of you if you want them to.

A reseller is a company which buys a product and resells it with added value. In this context, the reseller is the company which buys computer parts, assembles and installs, and sells you a computer. I would reccomend going with a reseller, because it greatly simplifies warranty, exchange, and customer service issues.

However, if you are experienced in by-the-part warranty and custom part customer service/tech support, buy the individual parts and make your own.

I have confidence in myself; just take a closer look at my avatar!

The extra part, he'd need, would include a Pichu logo on his case. Absolutely, my system will be gorgeous for him!

Haha.. I certainly appreciate it guys. I have a friend that does wholesale computer stuff. Think I'm just going to have him build it for me.. however, I'd still like a Pichu logo for the side of my tower. ;)

As far as Frys, from what I know, the ones around me, don't actually build it in front of you. You can buy all the parts their though.

I would say the best thing is to go to the web site that makes your processor and then see what companies they say they have tested their chips with. then go to those sites and pick you motherboard and keep going from there.

Bah, find reviews of what you want, then look around for deals if you are going to build. Thats all I can suggest. Otherwise look up what your friend is going to build and make sure he doesn't rip you off too bad.
